The GreenTown Development Company
The GreenTown Development Company (GDC) is the area development company, based on the vision of the GreenTown Foundation, with the objective of creating sustainable economic growth in Curaçao. GreenTown wants to re-develop the area where the current oil refinery is located. GreenTown wants to replace the Isla refinery with a clean zero-emission town, based entirely on sustainable energy sources. GreenTown is to be a vibrant city where many people on Curaçao can work and lead fulfilling lives.
Sustainability in GreenTown Curaçao
Energy in GreenTown will be based on sustainable sources like solar, wind, thermal deep sea or hydrogen power. Transportation in GreenTown will consist of electric powered vehicles and fresh water will be produced from recovered rainwater stored in large water reservoirs in the ground. Waste materials in GreenTown will be collected and recycled according to a cradle-to-cradle design that is based on the creation of efficient and waste-free systems.
The Economy of GreenTown
Curaçao has one of the largest and deepest natural harbors in the world and is an island that is safely situated outside the hurricane belt. The new GreenTown will offer various jobs to 16,000 people. Feasible economic activities will include: a large marina with an international allure, a harbor industry, an international conference and entertainment centre, a cruise terminal, an economic free trade zone, a container terminal and a recycling centre. Re-development of the area of the refinery will provide a significant improvement to the general welfare and livelihood of many people on Curaçao.
